  • Kabir Parikh, LMSW

Hi, welcome! I’m so glad you’re here!

My name is Kabir Parikh, and I use he/him pronouns.

Some important things to know about me:

    • I am a husband and cat dad.

    • I am Indian, Gujarati specifically.

    • I grew up in a Hindu house, which means that I went to temple and Sunday school every week.

    • I can read Sanskrit (slowly), and a phrase that I learned in high school was ‘vasudhaiva kutumbakam’, which translates to ‘the world is one family’.

Ever since I learned this phrase, I’ve thought a lot about community.

Building connections and relationships with people who have similar values and identities feels really important to me.

While I do hold other identities, being Indian is one that I’m very proud of. If I could always wear Indian clothes and eat Indian sweets (gulab jamun please), you best believe I would.

Part of my experience of being Indian is unlearning some of the more harmful messages that I was taught, like ‘what will people say if I do xyz’ or ‘I should suffer in silence and not complain.’

More of the unlearning I did started my exploration of gender identity and led to me coming out as a trans man.

I’ve dealt with varying degrees of dysphoria since puberty, but I didn’t always have the vocabulary to describe what I was feeling. However, it was clear as day that I was unhappy living in my body.

    I was hiding.

I didn’t want to be perceived, didn’t want to be seen.

Only after top surgery did I start showing up for myself in a more authentic way.

Now, I can say that I’m not hiding.

Those in my life would describe me as the Ideas Person.

    I have loads of ideas.

From how to revamp my morning routine’ (every couple days) to ‘wouldn’t it be nice if someone created an app to help me get my laundry done?’

I thought that these big and frequent ideas were just me keeping my head in the clouds and dreaming.

Once I got on tiktok, I learned more about neurodivergence and saw myself in those videos. I realized that I wasn’t alone, lazy, unambitious or unmotivated.

After this discovery, I needed support – not shame.

This idea – Support, not Shame – became my motto and it’s how I work with clients.

Instead of breaking ourselves down with harsh criticisms and negative self talk, we could build ourselves up with support and compassion.

I truly believe that human connection and lifting up one another is the answer to balancing the shame and isolation that are driving so many of us to mental health crises every day.

If you share the same sentiment – that connection, support, and skills – can provide some of the antidote to the emotional pain you’re feeling, reach out, and let’s get started today.
