Family Therapy

Families Are Messy—But They Don’t Have to Stay Stuck

Every family has its own dynamics, patterns, and unspoken rules. Sometimes, those dynamics create connection and support. Other times, they lead to tension, misunderstandings, or cycles of conflict that feel impossible to break. Whether you’re struggling with communication, navigating neurodivergence, working through past hurts, or trying to shift long-standing patterns, family therapy offers a space to untangle the mess and build relationships that feel healthier and more connected.

Family therapy isn’t about finding a “problem person” or assigning blame. It’s about understanding the system as a whole—how each person’s experiences, needs, and behaviors shape the family dynamic—and working together to create meaningful change.

How I Work

Every family is different, so there’s no universal solution. My approach is rooted in evidence-based frameworks that help families break out of unhelpful cycles and develop new ways of engaging with each other. These include:

  • Structural Family Therapy – Identifying relationship patterns, boundaries, and roles within the family to create healthier dynamics.

  • Transgenerational Therapy – Understanding how family history, inherited beliefs, and generational trauma shape present-day interactions.

  • Narrative Therapy – Helping family members rewrite unhelpful stories about themselves and each other to foster new ways of relating.

  • Nonviolent Communication (NVC) – Learning how to express emotions and needs clearly, listen without defensiveness, and communicate in a way that fosters connection rather than conflict.

  • Somatic & Experiential Work – Bringing awareness to how stress, tension, and emotions show up in the body and practicing ways to regulate in real time.

  • Restorative Practices – Creating space for accountability, repair, and rebuilding trust without shame or blame.

Therapy isn’t just about talking about the problems—it’s about actively practicing new ways of being together. Expect interactive exercises, structured conversations, and concrete strategies that help shift patterns in real time.

Who I Work With

Family therapy is for any group of people who consider themselves family and want to improve their relationships. This might include:

✅ Families struggling with communication, conflict, or misunderstandings
✅ Parents and neurodivergent kids/teens who need support in navigating ADHD, autism, or emotional regulation
✅ Families dealing with life transitions—divorce, remarriage, grief, relocation—that are creating tension or uncertainty
✅ Adult family members trying to repair strained relationships or break generational cycles
✅ Families in need of support with boundary-setting, repair work, and reconnecting after rupture

Session Length & Structure

You can choose the session length that best supports your family’s needs:

  • 60-Minute Sessions – Ideal for structured conversations, learning new skills, and making steady progress over time.

  • 90-Minute Sessions – Best for deeper work, processing complex emotions, or ensuring each family member has space to be heard.

Therapy may also include individual check-ins, parent coaching, or dyad work between specific family members, depending on the situation.

What to Expect

Family therapy is a dynamic process that evolves as you do. Here’s what to expect:

  1. First Session: Understanding the Family System – We’ll talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, what’s been working (or not), and where we need to start. Each family member will have space to share their perspective.

  2. Ongoing Sessions: Breaking Cycles & Practicing New Patterns – Therapy isn’t about assigning blame—it’s about understanding each person’s role in the system and making small, meaningful changes that create better dynamics.

  3. A Collaborative, Growth-Oriented Approach – I may assign small, individualized “homework” tasks designed to help each family member practice new skills or approaches between sessions.

Ready to Shift Your Family’s Dynamic?

Healing family relationships takes time, intention, and a willingness to show up for the process. If you’re ready to move beyond frustration and toward connection, let’s talk.
