  • Dr. Ryan Kjome, MD

Director of Clinical Mental Health Services

Hello, My name is Ryan Kjome (he/him/his) , I am a psychiatrist living in Austin for 11 years. I completed medical school at UT McGovern School of Medicine in Houston, where I also completed my residency in psychiatry as well as a post-doctoral research fellowship in addiction and impulsivity as well as measures of executive function. In my career, I have had academic positions most notably at McGovern as well at UT-Austin Dell Medical School, as well as UT Southwestern, UTMB, Texas A&M Medical School and UT-Austin School of Nursing. I have worked in private outpatient practice, inpatient general psychiatry, specialized inpatient care for mood disorder, PTSD and personality disorders, as well as IOP and PHP settings, where I trained in and employed DBT skills.

I have an appreciation for working with LGBTQIAA+ clients, and take seriously my responsibility caring for underserved populations and clients who have met difficulty receiving compassionate care in the classic medical model. I have experience working specifically with transgender, gender-nonconforming and nonbinary individuals, use Health at Every Size model for all patients in my care, and use a strengths-based approach guided by autistic voices when formulating care for neurodivergent clients. I specifically believe that in order to treat BIPOC clients, physicians and providers must be actively engaged in dismantling systems of oppression involved in access to care as well as to dispel bias within medicine. I especially appreciate working with trans patients, autistic and other neurodivergent adolescents and adults, PTSD, depression and treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, personality disorders and dual diagnosis. I am a queer, nonbinary psychiatrist, and it is part of my personal values to be able to administer care in a meaningful and holistic setting.
